As demand for AI computing power surges and chip power consumption rises exponentially, liquid cooling technology has become a strategic solution for ensuring the continuous and stable release of computing power. It is also increasingly regarded as an optimal and in some high-density data centre applications, indispensable solution for efficient thermal management.

In liquid cooling systems, pipelines are responsible for the critical functions of coolant distribution, transportation and collection. Over extended operation, they are exposed to a combination of high pressure coolant, high frequency vibration and temperature fluctuations. With wall thicknesses of only 0.1–0.5 mm and extremely low structural rigidity, bellows are particularly sensitive to welding defects. Any micron scale crack, incomplete fusion or other hidden defect in the weld may eventually develop into a leakage path under repeated thermal cycling. For liquid cooling systems, zero leakage is a fundamental safety requirement. Even a single leakage point can cause server downtime, GPU damage or, in extreme cases, disruption across an entire data centre worth tens of millions. The reliability of these components therefore directly affects the operational integrity of AI computing infrastructure.
Traditional brazing and argon arc welding face significant challenges when joining ultra thin bellows, including insufficient sealing performance, pronounced heat deformation, susceptibility to porosity and fatigue cracking, and poor consistency in mass production. At the same time, liquid cooling pipelines vary considerably in frame structure, cooling medium, inner diameter, wall thickness, bellows pitch and connector specifications, placing extremely high demands on process flexibility and precision control.
As a core enabling process for high end intelligent manufacturing, laser welding offers a small heat affected zone, minimal thermal deformation, smooth and dense weld seams, and easy integration with non-contact automation. By precisely controlling energy output through adjustments to laser modes and process parameters, laser welding enables deep fusion of the base materials, improving the mechanical properties and sealing reliability of welds. At the same time, it preserves sufficient heat-dissipation clearance for pipelines, reduces fatigue caused by high-frequency vibration and lowers the risk of coolant leakage. These advantages make laser welding highly suited to the stringent manufacturing requirements of liquid cooling pipeline systems, effectively addressing many of the challenges associated with conventional welding processes.

The Liquid Cooling Bellows Laser Welding System, developed by the customised equipment centre of Han’s Laser Special Equipment Group, primarily consists of an XYZ motorised platform, fibre laser, oscillating welding head, high-magnification industrial camera, rotary platform and dedicated fixture assemblies.Featuring high welding efficiency and long service life, the system is suitable for seamless, oxidation-free and heat-discolouration-free hermetic laser welding of key bellows components used in liquid cooling servers and data centre CDUs (Coolant Distribution Units).

With manual loading, vision positioning and rotary-platform clamping, the system supports both rotary and fixed-point rotary welding.Process parameters can be comprehensively optimised, while laser energy output can be precisely controlled, enabling continuous, high-precision circumferential welding around liquid cooling bellows.By changing the connector-profile fixture, the system can accommodate bellows with different connector types, ensuring stable and efficient welding while significantly improving production-line utilisation.
A high-magnification industrial camera is included as standard for high-precision positioning. An optional in-process weld quality monitoring system can provide real-time identification and early warning of defects such as porosity, cracks, weld deviation and lack of fusion.Full-process data traceability provides reliable support for closed-loop quality management.
Equipped with a high-speed oscillating welding head, the laser beam can flexibly scan along “O”, “8”, “∞” and “—” trajectories. This expands the effective beam operating range and enhances tolerance to joint-gap variations, allowing the system to handle the complex geometries and assembly deviations commonly found in liquid cooling pipeline systems.

Making every weld a foundation for safe and stable AI computing operations.Han’s Laser continues to advance innovation in liquid cooling laser welding processes, providing one-stop solutions covering process development, system equipment and automation integration for a comprehensive range of components including Liquid cooling plates 、Bellows 、Manifolds 、 Water guide tubes. These solutions help ensure stable operation of AI high-computing-power infrastructure under demanding liquid cooling conditions while supporting continuous technological breakthroughs and upgrades across the liquid cooling industry chain.
